A color splash is an excellent visual effect. Essentially, it is a monochrome picture, with one or more colored elements. You may colorize or decolorize pictures with almost any image processor, but you can do it much faster and easier with Photo Splash. It is designed specifically for the aforementioned effect and it provides everything you need to apply it.

Photo Splash is part of a larger suite of neat applications, which make various photo editing tasks as easy as possible. The software is available for Windows and Mac OS X and it does not require powerful hardware. You can install Photo Splash in a few moments and launch it right away.

You can either select a picture, on a standard Open dialog, or drag and drop the file on the program's interface. By default, the picture is converted to monochrome and you must use a brush to re-colorize specific areas. The size, hardness and opacity of the brush can be adjusted on the right side of the interface. If you activate the program's smart brushing feature, the brush will affect a single color.

The colors of the loaded picture can be inverted at any time, with a single click. This feature can be quite useful, if you find it easier to remove the colors, instead of adding them. It is also possible to invert the brush itself, just by right clicking anywhere on the editing area.

You can replace the brush settings with a series of adjustments settings, for modifying the picture's background and foreground. In addition, Photo Splash provides a good number of predefined selections, which you can use to remove reds, greens, blues and other colors, highlights, shadows or skin tones. These selections will not create the effect for you, but they can give a good head start.

Pros

The software provides an elegant interface, with well organized functions. You can use a smart brush to remove certain colors, without affecting the neighbouring colors. You can also find various predefined selections, which can help you get started.

Cons

Images can be saved only in JPG format. The smart tools that Photo Splash has to offer will enable any user, even beginners, to create high quality spot colored images.
